Try and one day you will succeed. Well I'm happy to report that after 3 starts I am finally the Raid Du Lougarou champion. The race was held in the beautiful town of Robert, Martinique. The course is 5k of flat 5k of rolling hills and 5k of flat back into town, pretty tough course and that's why its called Lougarou= something that's difficult, hard etc.
Race started at about 4pm, a bit warm but ok. At the start guys were fighting for position so I kept myself at the front keeping a close eye on claude nohile the Martinique champ among others. At 5k myself and Claude took off followed closely by Eddie Boulate of Guadaloupe. The first hill saw Claude jumping ahead of me but I stayed relaxed knowing there was more to come. After the first decent I forged ahead of Claude and suddenly he seems to fall way back, realizing that he was in trouble I upped the tempo and tried climing the hills at a relaxed pace knowing that I was the better climber. I must say I felt the effect of the OECS half Marathon in my legs and kept praying that I made it to the top. After the hills I basically run as easy as possible back into town, knowing that I had this one in the bag.
At the finish I met with my boy Kashinco, who I was staying with. One could see that he was very happy( that dude has a lot of confidence in me, thanks man). The price ceremony took some time but when I was finally called up I used that time to apologize to the people of Martinique for the rise in violent crimes committed in their country by St Lucians while at the same time asking them not to treat all St Lucians like criminals for there are good looshans all around. I must say it was well received.
Thanks to kashinco and his mom Miss Rachel for being so hospitable, God bless.
